Presentation

A Way With Words is a Bilingual School for children as young as 12 months of age.

Experience:
Janet Carol Salmona began working as a teacher in the eighties. At the beginning of the nineties, she decided to open her own school. Today, more than twenty years later A Way With Words is a Bilingual Nursery School, where our main goal is to work on the whole development of the child through play and affection.

Individual Attention: Classes with two teachers and a maximum of twelve children.
The reduced number of students in a class, allows teachers to attend to the children, creating real ties of confidence, affection and security, always respecting the rhythm and limits of each one of them.

Every day one of our teachers works with each student in the class individually, while the other supervises the dynamics in the classroom. We believe individual work is essential for creating a greater bond with each child and through which the childrens' singularities may be observed.

Bilingual Education
The acquisition of the English language, happens naturally at A Way, since the children are immersed in the language daily.

Each child is exposed to experiences in English under contextualized and significant situations. Affection is essential for the process of learning. Therefore, teachers, especially during the period of adaptation, use Portuguese whenever necessary, to tighten the bonds with the children and create an atmosphere of affection and security. Children are allowed to use their mother tongue, since our goal is for the child to express himself or herself and our focus lies on the child understanding the second language.

Brazilian Language and Culture
At A Way With Words we value both the Brazilian language and its culture. The children have access to stories, folklore, folk songs, legends and traditional games during our music and capoeira classes. We also celebrate the tradicional festivities such as carnival and festa junina.

Responsibility, Citizenship and Sustainability
We stimulate our children to think about their role and responsibilities in relation to themselves and to the planet. During our yoga classes, in our daily activities, our gardening and cooking classes, the kids get an opportunity to develop corporal and environmental consciousness, notions of healthy nutrition and self esteem.

At Way children learn to work in groups, listen to different opinions and to stand up for themselves. Transparency in the communication between management and teachers, employees, parents and children, plus an agreeable affective environment allows the children to feel at home.

Communication
One of the benefits of being a small school is that we have more of a possibility to be in close contact with parents. Transparency and communication are extremely important for a productive learning environment. We encourage all parents to become involved and stimulate communication between parents and teachers.
